Plan Description
This legislative map is a submission of the Arizona Latino Coalition for Fair Redistricting. It contains one of eight VRA-compliant legislative districts that achieve a majority Hispanic Voting Age Population, protect communities of interest, and give the Latino community the ability to elect a candidate of their choosing in each district.
Plan Objective
Of the eight legislative districts, five are in Maricopa County, and three of the districts are based in Southern Arizona. All eight districts have a population deviation under 5% from the ideal, comply with the requirements of the Voting Rights Act, are contiguous and as compact as possible, while also keeping together significant communities of interest and incorporating visible geographic features. The Independent Redistricting Commission appointed in 2021 will complete its work on June 28, 2024. After this time the IRC Office will be closed. A new Commission will be appointed in January 2031.
