Plan Description
A legislative district that keeps Flagstaff with Sedona, Cottonwood, and other Verde Valley communities - excludes Prescott and the Prescott AMA - includes Hualapai and Havasupai reservations.
Plan Objective
his plan unites regions of northern Arizona with similar environments (high elevation, forested), economies (largely dependent on outdoor recreation and tourism), and predominance of federal lands. It unites Flagstaff, Sedona, Verde Valley communities, Strawberry, Pine,Pinetop, and similar regions with predominance of tourism and national forest-dependent economies. The plan stretches to the west to incorporate Grand Canyon (N and S rims) and Lake Mead recreational areas. It connects the Kaibab-Paiute, Havasupai, and Hualapai lands with Flagstaff, but Navajo Nation lands in Coconino County are left out of the district so that the Navajo Nation can be whole in another district. Prescott is excluded as its having a groundwater Active Management Area presents a clear contrast with other northern Arizona regions and communities. The Independent Redistricting Commission appointed in 2021 will complete its work on June 28, 2024. After this time the IRC Office will be closed. A new Commission will be appointed in January 2031.
