Plan Description
Santa Cruz County is a border county with strong ties to the UofA and Tucson. We form a strong COI with Green Valley and Sahuarita, whose residents attend our events and support our non-profits.
Plan Objective
1. Remove Sierra Vista from the district. They are not like us, but are so numerous they will dominate our entire county just with numbers. Everything else can be negotiated, but not that. 2. Add the communities of Sonoita and Elgin from NE Santa Cruz Counties to LD7. They testified as a group at the COI hearing. Many of us testified that we wanted SC County to stay whole, but better lose Sonoita/Elgin than have Sierra Vista make all our decisions going forward. 3. Include the I-19 corridor communities of Green Valley/Sahuarita. We're a strong COI -- we shop, church, attend events, belong to groups together. That corridor extends to Tucson and would have included the UofA if it had been easier to do. 4. I went west to find the 44K voters I needed to replace Sierra Vista. We are happy with that, I think. It matches districts we have had in the past.
