Plan Description
This map creates an approximate 2 mile radius around the Central Phoenix Mountain Preserve as a community of interest for recreation and popular centers of worship that border the mountains. Attempts to rebalance the adjoining districts are made.
Plan Objective
This plan creates a Central Phoenix Mountain Preserve Community of Interest. Rather than the preserves being the dividing line between districts, this plan recognizes the community within a close radius with whom the preserves are central to their lifestyle. The preserves are a center of recreation and family activity. Additionally, several churches, synagogues, and faith based centers border the preserves, often being immediately adjacent to the mountains. Their communities of faith are drawn from the immediate neighborhoods encircling the preserves, not just one side or the other. For this and for environmental policy issues, the Central Phoenix Mountain Preserve should be considered a singular community of interest.
