Plan Objective
A Community of Interest isn’t whether I shop at Frys or Bashas. It isn’t about my HOA. This is about how we elect those who will represent us in government. The one element I hear no one talking about is economic. In less than 20 years, the economy of Scottsdale and the people of the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community have become inextricably mingled. The car dealerships moved away from McDowell Road to Salt River. Scottsdale Community College isn’t in Scottsdale, it’s in Salt River. Even Governor Ducey’s corporation, Cold Stone, didn’t choose any cities or towns in Arizona for their headquarters, they choose Salt River. Those who visit the baseball fields or the moving USS Arizona Memorial Gardens at Salt River also visit Scottsdale. It is a safe bet that most people driving up 101 or going to a Diamondbacks game don’t even know they aren’t in Scottsdale. The Independent Redistricting Commission appointed in 2021 will complete its work on June 28, 2024. After this time the IRC Office will be closed. A new Commission will be appointed in January 2031.
