Plan Description
This Legislative Map's goal is to redistribute southern AZ and the Tucson region for more contiguous borders and more competitive districts where possible. D17 is now almost 50/50 and Santa Cruz County and River Valley have been redrawn to rely less on Tucson population with more similar regions.
Plan Objective
This legislative district map changes a few of the traditional shapes we're used to seeing and offers a combination of approved plan 10.0 and what seems to be the more favored 9.0 plan in these meetings. D17 is now competitive and contiguous. Santa Cruz County is now one and part of a larger Santa Cruz River valley district. UA is part of D20 as Mayor Romero requested. D23 consists of native reservations in its entirety. D16 is its own district linking Maricopa, Casa Grande, Arizona City, Red Rock, Coolidge and stretches to Saddlebrook. This region is projected for major growth and deserves its own district. D19 has a new shape and includes Mammoth and San Manuel. Flagstaff is in D7 separate from Prescott in D5 which seems to be a major issue. And the Navajo Nation keeps their reservation in tact and expands it to include more of the Grand Canyon to the Nevada state line. There are a total of 30 districts. 15 favor Democrats slightly. 15 favor Republicans.
